Youth gained valuable knowledge about farm safety through an engaging Safety Zone presentation led by 4-H and FFA teen leaders. This hands-on session empowered participants to recognize and avoid common farm hazards. Held during the National Growers Council Farmers Field Day, the presentation was a powerful addition to the event. It successfully opened young minds to the importance of staying safe while working or visiting farms.

We are lucky to have a great crew from our local 811. They bring a trailer every year that is interactive and fun. They haven't missed a safety day in our community yet, and I have heard countless stories of parents telling me that their kids who attend safety day are always reminding them to call before digging.
Following our Progressive Agriculture Safety Day we received an email from on of the teachers whose class had recently participated in the water safety presentation and shared how their family was on the way to the lake without a life jacket for one of their youngest and after the student shared Remembering Wyatt Dale's story turned back around to get it vs continuing down the road and hoping for the best.
During our PAF Safety Day, several of the students made comments about how they usually ride the lawn mower with their parent and they will NOT be doing this again. At the horse safety station we used hot dogs as toes and after the station many students said they would wear protective boots/shoes when they went out to do chores.
If we can get the information to as many youths as possible, then maybe days, months, or years down the road, it will prevent them from getting injured because of something they heard or saw on Safety Day. We have done our job. It can be 1 out of 1,000, which is a success. I feel we are all a part of that village. It does not matter your location. We are all a part of the village.
Progressive Agriculture Safety Day is a sacred cow in my Extension work—too beneficial to cut. In rural areas like ours, safety education is scarce. PAF fills a critical gap, not just in our community but across Texas and Oklahoma too. With their resources, fast support, and great people, PAF makes it easy to do something that truly matters.
ATV safety is a major concern here. Safety Day has become an indispensable resource for Nicholas County youth, providing ATV safety courses, potentially life-saving lessons, and other safety programs. With PAF’s support, we’ve turned challenges into opportunities, empowering our youth with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe and thrive.
You will be amazed to see the excitement on children’s faces as they share their experiences. You will be surprised to find out it is their first time learning some of the safety issues discussed in their session. The well-being of our people is our priority and a group effort! PAF’s curriculum and our college’s mission go hand in hand in supporting our youth and community.

I think it is really interesting to hear the kids/parents talk about how important this topic is and what we provide them is invaluable. The realization that agriculture is all around us and just because they don’t live on a farm doesn’t mean they don’t need to be safe around it.
We have been hosting Safety Days in our community for many years and each year we invite University students to attend as volunteers to help guide and assist the youth participants. Every year we have a good group of students interested in being part of safety day but I was take aback this year as so many of our volunteer participants shared afterwards that they learned so much from the days events. Many students shared that they are not from rural communities and some shared that they have spent little to no time on farms. Our Progressive Agriculture Safety Day event shed light on safety events that they had never thought about or experienced. I think this was a good reminder to me that our youth participants sometimes aren't the only ones that leave having learned something new about themselves, others or the world around them and hopefully all our Safety Day participants and volunteers are safer because of it.
The support through this program and the Progressive Agriculture Foundation is unrivaled! As a coordinator, I feel equipped for our safety day because of the information provided by the website and the organization of the curriculum. Also, the staff are beyond wonderful and supportive. They make me feel like I am their only priority in each conversation that we have.
Living in a rural area, I see firsthand how kids don’t always understand the farming equipment and activity around them. PAF Safety Days are powerful because they teach kids safety, and those lessons often ripple through families. If one student reminds their parents to slow down for a tractor or wear a helmet, we’ve made a difference—that’s what it’s all about.
It’s incredibly rewarding. Safety is always a concern, especially for youth. Eighth grade is such a pivotal time—they start to feel ‘bulletproof,’ and we want them to be ready. Every day I don’t see a preventable tragedy in the news feels like a win. That tells me they’re listening, they’re learning, and maybe we helped make that difference.
After my child attended one of our local safety days, […] my son insisted that his dad go to get his hearing checked. […] Kids have power when talking to their parents and other adults. Because my son heard the safety message, my husband now has custom hearing protection.
In recent years we have experienced numerous ATV and RTV accidents. This year seems to have decreases hopefully as a result of student learning. Also social media bullying is at the forefront both locally and nationally. We hope to influence these young people as they grow and mature.
Wow! 30 years, congratulations PAF! I have so many amazing memories of participating as a volunteer presenter. I loved the look on the students' faces when they put on hearing protection for the first time, and they were amazed at how suddenly the cacophony around them became "peaceful". Without your program, those of us who want to have an impact on the safety and health of students would not have this opportunity.
Congratulations on 30 years, PAF! I have cherished every moment as a volunteer presenter, filled with incredible memories. Witnessing the students’ expressions transform the first time they put on hearing protection was truly memorable. The noisy environment around them suddenly shifted to tranquility, leaving them in awe. Your program has provided a unique platform for those of us eager to make a difference in the health and safety of students. Thank you for this opportunity!

So many awesome memories of PAF Safety days over my 27 years!!! Trainings all over the country and Canada, we've met so many amazing coordinators!! Serving as a coordinator on the Board of Directors and meeting so many industry partners and ag safety specialists was just as rewarding! So many lifelong friends, and what could be better than to be known as the "safety lady" :) What a special treat! Thank you to Susan Reynolds Porter and Bernard Geschke for approving my first safety day, and to all the staff who have helped me create an awesome event year after year! Awesome program!!!!
