Wall of Love

Christopher M Freeman

I didn't feel pressure to say anything. It felt like I could heal my own way and at my own pace.

As a navy veteran, peer support specialist, father, and partner to a woman with her own past traumas i struggle in my own day to day life i felt i was running out of options as far as therapy. With my work i am exposed to other veterans traumatic experiences as i aid their recovery work. This takes a toll on my work and personal life because i can never close my own trauma wounds. This then spills over to my home life and effect those around me that i care about. After attending Dr Ayana Brown’s group i was able to open a new door in my life and close some of the old ones

I’m thanking Dr. Ayana Brown for an incredible group EMDR therapy session I joined yesterday. I loved her “no trauma, just get the healing” approach, because it helped me heal without feeling like I had to dig up painful memories. I truly think anyone who gets the chance to work with her should take it and learn from her skillful guidance.

What I found most valuable was how much individual work I could do, even in a group setting, and it surprised me in a good way. I came in open-minded but guarded, yet the process created a rich personal experience without me having to share my trauma out loud. I also felt this group is a strong fit for communities of color and families because my healing stayed private while still being deeply effective.

I joined expecting a purely educational experience, but I ended up participating and working through my own issues with the group. The most unique part was that we processed together in silence, so it still felt communal without needing to explain out loud what I was dealing with.
